The Act of February 16 was the result of a series of resolutions on the issue, including one issued by the Vilnius Conference and the Act of January 8. -
Monday June 5, 2023
Secular holiday : On the afternoon of June 3, 1963, Khomeini delivered a speech in which he warned the Shah that if he did not change his ways the day would come when the people would offer up thanks for his departure from the country. The immediate effect of the Imam's speech was his arrest two days later at 3 a.m. by a group of commandos, who hastily transferred him to the Qasr Prison in Tehran. As dawn broke on June 4, the news of his arrest spread first through Qom and then to other cities. Masses of angry demonstrators were confronted by tanks and ruthlessly slaughtered. It was not until six days later that order was fully restored. This uprising of Khordad 15, 1342 (the day in the Iranian calendar on which it began) marked a turning point in Iranian history. The events of the 15th of Khordadcan indeed be characterized as the prelude to the Islamic Revolution of 1978-79.

Secular holiday : Honors all those who sacrificed themselves to better the lives of the Ugandan people. Unfortunately, the holiday is one of the most divisive days in the Ugandan year. What constitutes a hero, and who specifically should be honored, are matters of debate in the country. Many of the heroes officially recognized by the government are fallen soldiers who died during Uganda's civil war in the 1980s. But the scars of that war, and the memories of crimes committed by both sides against the Ugandan people, are still in evidence today. There is no widespread agreement as to which of that war's fallen should be honored.
Some citizens have argued for remembering less controversial heroes, such as the Ugandan doctor who detected a deadly Ebola outbreak before it spread. [encyclopedia2]

-
Monday July 10, 2023
Secular holiday : The Orange Lodge was a centre for community activity in Newfoundland. For example, in 1903 Sir William Coaker founded the Fisherman's Protective Union (F.P.U.) in an Orange Hall in Herring Neck. Furthermore, during the term of Commission of Government (1934-1949), the Orange Lodge was one of only a handful of democratic organizations that existed in the Dominion of Newfoundland. It supported Newfoundland's confederation with Canada in reaction to Catholic bishops' support for self-government.
After 1945, the Canadian Orange Order rapidly declined in membership and political influence. The development of the welfare state made its fraternal society functions less important. A more important cause of the decline was the secularization of Canadian society: with fewer Canadians attending churches of any sort, the old division between Protestant and Catholic seemed less relevant. Bastille Day (ends a month of festivities)
-
Friday July 14, 2023
Secular holiday : Bastille Day, on the Fourteenth of July, is the French symbol of the end of the Monarchy and the beginning of the First Republic. The national holiday is a time when all citizens can feel themselves to be members of a republican nation. It is because this national holiday is rooted in the history of the birth of the Republic that it has great significance. On 5 May 1789, the King convened the Estates General to hear their complaints: but the assembly of the Third Estate, representing the citizens of the town, soon broke away and formed the Constituent National Assembly. On 20 June, 1789, the deputies of the Third Estate took the oath of the Jeu de Paume to not separate until the Constitution had been established. The people of Paris rose up and decided to march on the Bastille, a state prison that stood for the absolute despotism of the Ancient Regime.
On July 14, 1789, the storming of the Bastille immediately took on a great historical dimension; it was proof that power no longer resided in the King as God's representative, but in the people, in accordance with the theories developed by their philosophers of the eighteenth century. Within two days the Revolution could not be reversed. For all citizens of France, the storming of the Bastille came to symbolize liberty, democracy in the struggle against oppression. Ceuta Day
-
Saturday September 2, 2023
Secular holiday : In late August 1415, King John I of Portugal led an assault that would come to be known as the Conquest of Ceuta. The Portuguese caught the city with no sweat. Possibly this is the reason no one idea about what flag to use after the city was taken. Fortunately, somebody had packed the flag of Lisbon, which they all chose would be an incredible design for Ceuta. The coat of arms of Portugal was added to the center and that flag is as yet used for Ceuta today.
Over the next hundreds of years, Spain and Portugal Ceuta quarreled like Iberian brothers with Ceuta passing between them. The city was at long last surrendered to King Carlos II of Spain on January 1st, 1668 by the Treaty of Lisbon.
Even though Ceuta was vanquished by Portugal on August 22nd, 1415, it is praised on September 2nd as Spain and Portugal received the Gregorian calendar in 1582, pushing dates ahead by ten days.
