Culture : The holiday is commemorated to the deed of the men of letters, enlighteners, fighters for national liberation, who have preserved the national spiritual heritage throughout the centuries. As of 1922 it is a nation-wide holiday. After its ban in 1945, its celebration was resumed in 1990. In December 1995 the 37th National Assembly declared it an official holiday. Bulgarian Stock Exchange remains open.

He petitioned for freedom of the press, was involved in the territory's labor movement, and, when the Danish West Indies became the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1917, he lobbied for citizenship for the islanders. Culture : Derives its name from Tripurari - the foe of the demon Tripurasura. In some legends of Kartik Purnima, the term is used to denote the three demon sons of Tārakāsura. Tripurari is an epithet of god Shiva. Shiva in his form as Tripurantaka ( Killer of Tripurasura ) killed Tripurasura on this day. Tripurasura had conquered the whole world and defeated the gods and also created three cities in space, together called Tripura . The killing of the demon(s) and destruction of his/their cities with a single arrow - by Shiva overjoyed the gods and they declared the day as a festival of illuminations. This day is also called Dev-Diwali —the Diwali of the gods. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights. [Wikipedia]

Culture : Children hollow out turnips and carve them into lanterns, later putting candles in them and carrying them through the dark streets to the sound of musical accompaniment. The procession often finishes with a drink or some hot food. The custom is organised by sport and community associations, residents' associations, church groups, schools and kindergartens.

Culture : Kartar Singh Sarabha (24 May 1896 – 16 November 1915) was an Indian Sikh revolutionary who is among the most famous and reputed martyrs of Punjab. He was only 17 years old when he became a member of Ghadar Party, then came up as a leading luminary member and started fight for an independent India.
